Jammin’ On the River with the Back Porch Band, the annual Elders First Adult Day Services fundraiser, is set for 7-10 p.m. Saturday, June 20. The silent auction and donations at the door will raise operating revenue for support of the Murfreesboro-based adult day care program for those with Alzheimer’s or other frailty due to aging.
Jammin’ On the River, is being hosted by Barbara Thomas, Secretary of the Elders First Board, and her husband, Murphy, at their home located at 2111 Shannon Drive in Murfreesboro. A dedicated supporter of adult day services, Mrs. Thomas is enthusiastic about accomplishing what she can to help improve the quality of life for seniors who are suffering from dementia in Rutherford County. Chuck Mullens and the Back Porch Band will provide the kind of energetic music that will get everyone’s feet a- tapping. A light buffet supper of delicious finger foods will be catered by Halley Neal, owner and operator of Grandma’s Gourmet. “Sliders” will be cooked fresh on the grill with guests welcome to gather ‘round and advise the “chefs”. The silent auction will offer the work of area artists and craft persons including Dan Sharley, Christie Nuell, Anne Wagner, Beverly Ford Evans, Cathy Youree and others. Also up for bid are an overnight at Murfreesboro’s Hastings House B & B owned by Jane and Bob Blakey, an American flag flown over the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. to be obtained by Rep. Bart Gordon via his Chief of Staff Kent Syler and personalized for the auction winner, and much more. Hosts include Board of Directors members and spouses: Janet and David Belsky, Maxine and Jerome Drake, Betty and George Hester, Ann and David Hoke, Carolyn and Tony Johnston, Susan and Lee Moss, Tina and Vince O’Brien, Betsy and Dan Sharley, Lynell and Kent Syler, and Barbara and Murphy Thomas.
