Opportunity Calendar
Pet Friendly Social Hour
If your dog or cat revels in non-stop attention, bring them out for a visit with the residents of Green Hills Health and Rehab Center. While your pet enjoys love from the residents, you can engage in wonderful conversation with the residents and hear stories of their past. Everyone’s day will be a bit brighter! You must bring a copy of your pet’s current vaccination record to leave on file with the center. Volunteers are needed on the fourth Saturday of every month from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m.
Dance Partners for Senior Women
The Blakeford at Green Hills is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (Independent Living, Assisted Living and Nursing Home). The senior women at the Blakeford enjoy the fun dancing brings to life. They are looking for male partners to come and join them in a ballroom dance class. Beginners are welcome, and the class is complementary! Come on out and learn a new hobby while making someone else’s day bright. Volunteers are needed every Monday from 4 until 5 p.m.
Serve It Up at the Mission
Nashville Rescue Mission seeks to help the hurting of Middle Tennessee by offering food, clothing and shelter to the homeless and recovery programs to those who need them. Volunteers will assist with serving meals, helping with the preparation of some food items, light cleanup and serving guests in the dining room. By the end of this project, you’ll be taking home a smile of your own. Volunteers are needed on the second Tuesday and third Thursday of each month from 4:30 until 7 p.m.
To-Be-Scheduled Opportunities
Residence Volunteer
Hospital Hospitality House (HHH) provides a "home away from home" for out-of-town families and patients who have to travel to Nashville for medical treatment. The atmosphere of the House is conducive for spiritual support, love, and encouragement, as well as for guests to receive food and shelter, all of which help individuals through medical crises that they would otherwise face in a strange city alone. HHH is currently looking for volunteers in the evenings to assist with meals, help maintain the residence, and be available to visit with guests who want to talk.
Administrative Volunteer for Penuel Ridge
Penuel Ridge is a contemplative, interfaith retreat center offering day, overnight and extended-stay retreats. Located on 195 acres in Ashland City, Penuel Ridge offers an opportunity to be in communion with nature. Volunteers are primarily needed Monday-Friday during regular business hours although some duties may be performed off-site or during evenings or weekends. Tasks may include: responding to phone calls, e-mails, letters, etc.; office filing and organizing; scheduling and maintaining records of retreat activity; database maintenance; distributing monthly e-bulletins to constituency and maintaining website information. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of four hours per shift and two shifts per month.
After School Youth Program
The Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) seeks to empower refugees and immigrants in the Nashville area by providing educational and social services. Services include ELL classes, employment assistance, immigration assistance, social adjustment, youth education services and community education regarding refugees and immigrants. NICE is seeking volunteers that will provide academically enriching activities to support scholastic needs and promote interest in the content areas. Volunteers will cultivate English language proficiency through activities such as guided conversations and writing exercises.
