— Speakers and wine experts Barbara Nowak and Beverly Pittman, also known as the ‘Saucy Sisters,’ uncork traditional wine advice in their newly released book, “The Saucy Sisters Guide to Wine – What Every Girl Should Know Before She Unscrews.”

In the new paperback, which is available at Amazon.com and other online retailers, the Sisters offer straight talk about choosing and serving wine and provide down-to-earth tips. In doing so, they are unafraid to buck traditional wine wisdom.

“The information inside our book is serious … the delivery is not,” noted Nowak, who appears regularly with Pittman at conventions, social gatherings and fundraising events. “Our latest ‘Guide to Wine’ is meant for the modern woman who understands that good wines come in all kinds of packaging – including screw tops.”

The Sisters deliver their wine knowledge in unconventional ways. In a chapter on varietals, they reveal how women can judge a man by the wine he drinks. Other chapters provide the scoop on how to taste wine, how to find wine values, how to create a personal wine cellar, hot new wine regions and entertaining with wine.

“When it comes to dining out, we know how intimidating a restaurant wine list can be,” said Pittman, who has shared a microphone with Nowak as co-host of “Sauced!,” a talk show on WAMB-AM and WLAC-AM in Nashville. “A contemporary girl wants to look like a wine pro and impress her guests at the table. So, we give her three foolproof strategies to order with confidence.”

“ … And when that perfect bottle of wine is delivered to the table, and the waiter hovers expectantly, we help her ‘fake’ the wine-tasting ritual. It’s as simple as using our six ‘S’ words,” Nowak added.

The authors share their enthusiasm for screw top wines by pointing out that there is no performance anxiety with unscrewing and no need to pack a corkscrew that ends up being confiscated by the TSA.

The Saucy Sisters recently celebrated the release of the new book by setting a World Record for “most women unscrewing bottles of wine simultaneously.” The gathering of 127 women raised funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Williamson County. The new book is a follow-up to the popular “The Saucy Sisters’ Guide to Wine – What Every Girl Should Know Before She Uncorks” (Penguin Group, 2004). The duo also penned “The Everything Wine Book” (Adams Media, 2005).

Nowak also wrote the best-selling cooking reference book, “Cook It Right” and hosted regular cooking segments on HGTV’s “Today at Home” for four seasons.

Pittman noted that the latest book is especially written for “the girl who would rather sip than study, who feels like an outsider in a pack of wine snobs, but who welcomes a good laugh with her wine.”
